    Your Expo West Survival Guide

Yes, it's that time again. The event thousands of natural food companies around the world have put a year of planning and strategy into. The moment almost a hundred thousand people have been waiting for. The monumental behemoth of Natural Products Expo West.

Known to most people as simply "Expo West' this trade show dedicated to everything natural and organic will erupt in Anaheim on March 10th. The four day show is full of exciting things to either dig into, or become overwhelmed by.  Because a single day requires miles of walking, eating, chatting, dancing, and oh so much more.  Here is what to expect from us at Expo West 2016 and how to survive it in style.

Want to know what it looks like inside?  Watch last year's video.

#1 The Labyrinth of Free Food

The challenge: Let's face it. Everyone at Expo West ends up well fed. This occurs one little sample at a time, at each one of up to 10,000 booths at a time.  For people new to the "Way of the Expo West" sampling randomly can become a gastronomic problem. For Example: Trying a hundred detox and juice sample in one day can be a problem (As one of our team members find out after drinking 15,000% the daily recommended amount of Vitamin C ). You can spot a veteran Expo attendee, because they know exactly what brands they are going to visit, and are excellent at balanced grazing.

The solution: Surviving this portion of Expo West requires balance and a sound. plan. Our Suggestion: Thankfully the gracious folks who organize Expo West provide both a Map and a Mobile App which lets you make your own schedule each day. Use both, and come up with a game plan. If you own a retail store you can mark brands you already carry to take advantage of show specials on the first day, and mark new ones to explore the next day. Our Totally Biased Suggestion: Visit Ojio and our related brands at two completely amazing booths under Ultimate Superfoods.  Instead of the usual boring smoothies each booth will feature a full range of wholesome foods and supplements to graze on. You will have your pick of our classic superfood trail mixes at booth 2981 or the rejuvenating supplements at booth 905. Both of them are designed to offer attendees a simple balanced buffet of morsels and real nutrition to keep you in the trade show game.

#2 From Yoga to Rock & Roll

Expo West isn't just about the food. It isn't just about bamboo clothing brands, or the next best water bottle to hit the shelves. The event is a layered onion of many smaller events happening each and every hour, of every day. This includes store tours, herbal arboretum walks, and VIP award dinners. The morning of every Friday and Saturday begins with free Yoga and each evening ends with incredible parties featuring music, drinks, and yes even more food with friends. The hardest part about navigating the events is simply deciding which ones to attend and where you will need to be each day. Our Suggestion: Go to the events page for the Natural Products Expo website and decide ahead of time where you need to be to have the most fun. Go There.

#3 Eat. Play. Learn. The Next Foodie Generation

Those who have mastered the two prior parts of Expo West should also spend time attending at least some of the lively lectures and workshops of the Expo West Conference running in tandem with the trade show. Beyond the free food and incredible entertainment the conference is an important reason so many people in the business of keeping things natural get together. Our Suggestion: There is a cost to attend The EWC each day so it is important to either pick a day of lectures with the most relevance to you, and the speakers you will definitely want to hear, or explore the idea of purchasing their Super Pass which grants you access to everything the entire Expo West education courses have to offer. There are also many free Exhibitor Sponsored events you can attend at the hotels across from the main event as well. Simply check the schedule online and make some plans.

Many of us at Ultimate Superfoods and its Ojio, Ojio Sport, Earthling Organics, and Bare Mixers, brands have spent months preparing for Expo West. Those of us returning this year are reminded that sore feet are also accompanied with wide smiles and a mutual love of all things natural. We look forward to seeing friends old and new at Booth 2981  and 905 this year. We'll have plenty of things to offer you in return. Including a big honest hug if you really need it.

Every year Ultimate Superfoods sets up a small humble booth at the Love Run 5k/10k charity event, an event full of love. Not the sultry selfish type of love which is quick to end or the blasé fleeting love expressed in passing on the street. It is an event which inspires that slowly grown genuine love reserved for only the most important of human beings. In this case the Love Run event evokes in us all a loving concern for the growing number of seniors in the United States who are finding it harder and harder to find or even afford a decent meal or support in a youthfully driven competitive society; where it is easy to forget where we came from and even easier to forget the generations who got us here.

    What Love Benefits

40 years ago a private non-profit organization Senior Concerns opened its arms to their community in the Ventura and western Los Angeles area. The program is dedicated to serving the senior community by providing care givers, educational outreach, and quality-of-life programs critical to supporting people later in life and their families who may need help. They aim to keep seniors active and living in their homes for as long as possible and all programs are offered for openly regardless of any ability to pay for the programs. This kind of genuine love inspires attention and in the case of the annual Love Run, inspires charitable and genuine support. Senior Concerns uses funds donated to them through the Mud Runs to provide Meals on Wheels scholarships to homebound and hidden members of the community- and nobody is ever turned away.

    Love did this

Last year the funds raised through the Love Run event fed over 35,000 seniors. Donations come from the community in all forms from entry fees and sponsorship per mile to the fees vendors will happily afford to support such a charitable organization as Senior Concerns at such a charitable event like the Love Run. The event is held in the small area of Westlake and comprises of both 5k (3-mile) and 10k (6 mile) courses. The bulk of runners every year are neighbors from the community looking to make a fun celebration of life out of the event and many are far from the typical serious marathoners chasing the rabbit of a lead running time. A participant can easily expect costumes, flashy spandex, and the genuine laughter of people who are all showing up in the wee hours of the morning to support something honest and worthwhile.

    We Love You Too

This year will be another fantastic moment to show the love and support we have for what the Love Run event accomplishes in benefiting an honestly necessary non-profit, Senior Concerns, and the community of elders, grandmothers and grandfathers, veterans and wise teachers of life, who live right next door to us every day.

Come visit us if you happen to be in the Westlake area on June 7th and would like to be a part of the event. We will be bringing a full spread of good wholesome foods to try, and of course a lot of love.

Hood River is a place famous for competing with Portland for blessed originality and keeping itself weird. The Huckleberry's Natural Market location used this display as a perfect example of the creativity and strangeness of the town, if you're looking hard enough you'll find a little divine weirdness that turns things upside down.

Once a year the enthusiasm for organic natural products and a healthy lifestyle, in the western style, is exuded by a crowd of people at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. This overshadows all the cheer and happiness of the magical kingdom next door and the aura of all pretense.

Yes, it's that time again. The event thousands of natural food companies around the world have put a year of planning and strategy into. The moment almost a hundred thousand people have been waiting for. The monumental behemoth of an industry trade show humbly referenced by many as 'Expo West' but known to the city of Anaheim it takes over March 6th thru the 8th as Natural Products Expo West.

The excitement and enormity of the event itself can really be related to a triathlon because every day there exists three layers of exciting things to dig into, or become overwhelmed by. These fun challenges await!

#1 The Labyrinth of Free Food

Let's face it. Everyone at Expo West ends up well fed. This occurs one little sample at a time from a few thousand brands at a time. You can spot a veteran Expo attendee at a show, because they know exactly what brands they are going to visit, and are excellent at balanced grazing.  For people new to the "Ways of the Expo West" sampling randomly can become a gastronomic problem. For Example: Trying every detox and juice sample in one day can easily result in over 15,000 percent the daily recommended intake of Vitamin C and this can be a problem (As new grazing USF employees find out each year). Surviving this portion of Expo West requires balance and a plan.

Our Suggestion: Thankfully the gracious folks who organize Expo West provide both a Map and a Mobile App which let you make your own schedule for each day. Use both,  and come up with a game plan. If you own a retail store you can mark brands you already carry to find out about show specials the first day, and mark new ones to explore the next day. Anyone can do same. All the while you will want to be observing a balance of what you will and won't be sampling too much of in a single day.

Our Other Totally Biased Suggestion: The Ultimate Superfoods Booth 2375 at Expo West will feature a full range of foods to graze from. You will have brand new Earthling Organic Rawnola bars and cereals, Ojio Trail Mixes with nuts & berries, protein and energy from Ojio Sport, all of it designed to offer a simple balanced buffet of morsels. It won't be as flashy as the bigger booths but as much as we can do for everyone. We remain humble!

#3 Eat, Play, Learn; The Next Foodie Generation

The non-Organice, pro-GMO, producers of processed food have thier industry meetings, and so do the pro-Organic, anti-GMO businesses at Natural Products Expo West.

Want to share ideas about the future?

Those who have mastered the two prior parts of Expo West should also spend time attending at least some of the lively lectures and workshops during the actual Expo West Conference. Beyond the free food and incredible entertainment, this is the most important reason so many people in the business of keeping things more natural get together.

The lecture topics this year will range from how natural and orangic businesses can succeed, to how they are, or can be, protrayd by popular media on Thursday, to full non-GMO lectures on Friday, and ending with such great lectures as Women In Leadership and Digital Strategies for competing on Saturday.

Our Suggestion: There is a cost to attend The EWC each day so it is important to either pick a day of lectures with the most relevance to you, and speakers you will definitely want to hear, or explore the idea of purchasing their Super Pass which grants you access to everything the entire event has to offer.  There are also many Exhibitor Sponsored events you can attend at hotels such as the Marriott across from the main event throughout the weekend as well. Simply check the schedule online.

Many of us at Ultimate Superfoods and its Ojio, Ojio Sport, Earthling Organics, and Bare Mixers, brands (made of people) have spent sleepless nights and many months preparing to tackle the excitement and challenges of the Natural Products Expo West event as a humble mid-level company.

Those of us returning to Expo West this year are reminded that sore feet are also accompanied with wide smiles and love. We must make sure our toes are ready to take on what the first full weekend of March has to offer.

The most important thing about Expo West is that we look forward to having people visit us at Booth 2375.  We'll have plenty of things to offer you in return. Including a big honest hug if you ask for it.

This year, September 11-14, Ultimate Superfoods will present its line of products and new brands at Booth 2102 for the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Health  and Fitness Association as its trade show in Toronto.

Each year the CHFA hosts three monumental shows CHFA West  CHFA East and CHFA Québec to represent the different regions of Canada's natural food industry. The CHFA shows offer companies like Ultimate Superfoods the chance to show off their wares and make supportive connections to help boost the natural food industry towards even more growth and success. The collaborations made between industry leaders and motivational presenters are focused on keeping people happy, by keeping them healthy. The companies represented at CHFA are commited to making sure this goal is achieved by offering pure products and helpful services that benefit everyone from farm-to-tabke.

Inspiring dialogue is also offered over the course of CHFA East that helps keep most companies on track in regards to fulfilling an honest commitment to bringing truly healthy and natural foods to a growing market of people choosing to organic and truly natural foods.

This year the main topic of discussion is the unprecedented changes the govermental body that regulates food, known as the Food Directorate, or Health Canada, and the it's inspection agency (CFIA), will have on the food industry as a whole. This popular forum will help small distributors and manufacturers better understand how Canada will be regulating the health food and supplement market.  Senior officials from CFIA and the Food Directorate office of Canada will be present to address questions face to face in regards to Canada's rapid updates to licensing requirements, food safety, and offered guidance for companies importing new foods and supplements into the country.

Environmental needs will also be presented including a call to help protect and restore the Toronto Don Valley Watershed using a hands-on approach by transporting volunteers from CHFA East to the Toronto Don River help plant wildflowers, shrubs, and trees to help secure its beauty and integrity for the future.

Ultimate Superfoods is proud to be a part of CHFA East every year and we look forward to connecting with friends in the industry both old and new. If there are any questions you have about CHFA you can get them  answered directly at www.chfa.ca

If you are at CHFA East stop by Booth 2102 and say hello.
