The First Trip: April 11 - 13 Second Helping: April 18-21

Anyone who has ever attended a massive festival (such as Burning Man) has had the unique experience of eventually crawling around the festival seeking hydration and something good to eat. At a standard festival this usually consists of such incredible fare as mystery meat nacho dogs, over-priced fat bombs, and stale salted soda. Mix in a blazing sun and random Dionysian chaos among a crowd of around 100,000 people; all in the throws of debaucheries and musical ecstasies you can only begin to imagine- and one thing becomes very clear.  Something healthy and nutritious is a blessing to not just a raw vegan or vegetarian, but everyone spending their weekend(s) in massive celebration. This blessing exists at one such event known as Coachella.

Coachella is an annual music festival in Indio California that is well known for being what the Los Angeles Times called, 'The festival where vegan food rules," in regards to the variety and quality of the foods available over the two-weekend long musical omnibus of bands, events, and even now iconic Ferris Wheel. This year Ultimate Superfoods through its Ojio and Earthling Organics brands is planning a full scale yummy invasion of this magical audiophile's dreamland.

    Into the Raw

So you want to know who’s playing Coachella this year? Among the two weekends April 11th - 13th and April 18th-20th there are so many groups of various genres that it makes the line up for Woodstock look like an open-mic night. Beck, the Afghan Whigs, Muse, the Replacements, Fat Boy Slim, Queens of the Stone Age…my fingers hurt. Download the full line-up and cool looking poster directly from the gracious festival site here:

    The Temperature of Kindness is

As a modest Superfood company we wouldn't be able to help offer truly nourishing event grub during the two weekends of Coachella without the help and
culinary support of Jenny Ross and her team at 118°. The restaurants named after the maximum temperature allowed for a food to be considered raw serve up a gourmet dining experience to please the palates of not just the raw food crowd, but anyone looking for cool exotic, and flavorful, fare during what promises to be a blazing hot weekend at Coachella. This year at Coachella expect a dynamic range of flavorful raw dishes to satisfy your palate, but if you’re not going to the event, consider treating yourself to a meal served at 118° , at the right temperature, and at the right restaurant, to sooth away your hunger on a blazing hot day.

Jenny Ross is no stranger to Coachella, as even this Los Angeles Times music column attests to food offered by 118° at the Outdoor Stage in 2013,

The Coachella edition of chef Jenny Ross' three-outlet O.C. establishment sported some verde tacos that were summer in a bowl. Crunchy lettuce wedges replaced the tortilla, with a mix of picked veggies, salsa fresca and what tasted like a tangy cashew spread to add heft.

    –August Brown. 2013

The only area the L.A. Times found somewhat lacking in delicious food options last year was the VIP area and a few other spots. With an infusion of Ojio raw foods sourced by Ultimate Superfoods this year, 118° is filling those gaps at Coachella to better serve up yummy raw foods to attendees, and maybe a few musicians, all while Jenny gets to continue on her personal mission, “To educate the world about the power of gourmet living foods!” .

If you haven't frequented a 118° restaurant, try it just once, and you will. Besides offering the best a gourmet raw dining experience has to offer, 118° also caters events and hosts cooking courses open to the public. Jenny Ross and her team can also be found almost anywhere a major event is happening in Southern California. This past March at Natural Products Expo West we were honored to be able to connect with Jenny Ross and we are grateful for her presence as a valuable friend.
