Our acai powder comes from Brazil, where the plant is native to the subtropical Amazon rainforest. The climate is hot and humid in the summer, with mild wet winters and yields nutritious berries that are harvested by local families in between wet seasons. Acai berries contain a large seed at the center, comprising almost 90% of the fruit. The purple skin and pulp exterior of the berry is removed from the large seed, then freeze dried and milled into fine powder that is high in antioxidants, fatty acids and other beneficial nutrients.

Acai berries are native to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, where the subtropical climate is warm and humid. The tree is a species of palm, can grow up to about 80 ft in height and has many long leaves. After three to five years of age the tree begins to produce small dark purple berries that are similar in appearance to a grape and usally less than an inch in diameter.

The berries are harvested between wet seasons by local families who remove the branches from the tree and later separate the berries and place them in baskets. After harvesting, the berries are gently cleaned and sent to freezer storage where they are freeze dried under vacuum and cold temperature. The freeze dried berries are inspected before being milled in a humitidy controlled environment and sifted into fine powder before being packed.
